Funeral services set for local WWII vet

Funeral arrangements for World War II combat veteran and local dentist Dr. Joseph E. Torres are scheduled for this week.

A rosary will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Sisters of Perpetual Adoration Monastery, 145 N. Cotton.

A funeral Mass will also begin at 11 a.m. Friday at the same location.

A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

The local chapter of the 82nd Airborne Division Association will have a celebration of Torres’ life and a reception from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at its clubhouse, 2608 Fort Blvd.

Torres died Feb. 5 at age 93 from heart-related issues. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942-45 during World War II.

He was a practicing dentist in El Paso until his death.
