Wilson's confirmation hearing drawing near
WASHINGTON, D.C. —
President Trump's pick to be the next Air Force secretary is finally getting her hearing in the Senate.
Heather Wilson, who represented New Mexico in the U.S. House from 1998-2009, was nominated in January. According to Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman John McCain, R-AZ, Wilson's paperwork has been officially received and her hearing could begin before the end of March.
Wilson is a graduate of the Air Force Academy and a Rhodes Scholar. She is currently president of the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.
Two of Trump's other nominees to lead branches of the military have withdrawn their names. Navy secretary nominee Philip Bilden and Army secretary nominee Vincent Viola both said they were unable to separate themselves from business interests that would have interfered with government office.
