New Mexico U.S. Rep. Steve Pearce talked with CBS4 from Washington, D.C., on March 14.

CBS4 talked to the congressman about the vote for the STOP School Violence Act on Wednesday. He said he was in favor of the bill but would also like to see more done to protect schools.

"What I'd like to see is a hardening of the schools. Let's get shatterproof glass. Let's have acoustic sensors where we can tell exactly where the shots are being fired. I think there's a lot of things we can do. I would like to see metal detectors; if we can get safe doors," said Pearce, R-N.M.

CBS4 asked about a bill Pearce helped introduce that aims to protect homebuyers in rural communities.

Pearce also talked about the committee he's leading on Thursday, and CBS4 asked his reaction to President Donald Trump's announcement on tariffs.
