Arraignment hearing for transgender woman charged with re-entering the US illegally
EL PASO, Texas —
Irvin Gonzalez's arraignment hearing for re-entering the US illegally will take place in federal court on Thursday morning a plea of guilty or not guilty will be entered.
A federal grand jury indicted Gonzalez in February after she was deported in January 2016.
The 33-year-old transgender woman was detained by federal agents at an El Paso courtroom as she received a protective order from her boyfriend.
Agents checked Gonzalez’s records and discovered she's been deported six times prior, and has a criminal background including domestic abuse and assault.
If convicted, she faces up to 10 years in prison.
The arraignment is scheduled at 11:00 am Thursday.
Her next hearing is set for April 10.
