Bond granted for semi driver accused of smuggling immigrants near El Paso
Despite some opposition from prosecutors, a federal judge granted bond for Comothial Harper on Thursday.
Harper will have to pay 10 percent of the $30,000 bond.
Harper was arrested earlier this month after federal agents said they found nearly two dozen people inside a semi-truck.
Authorities said the people were from Mexico and Guatemala.
There were also more than 250 pounds of marijuana inside, according to authorities.
In court on Thursday, prosecutors said they were concerned that Harper might be a flight risk.
Harper will be allowed to stay with family in Georgia as long as he returns to El Paso for court.
His next court appearance is scheduled for September 6.
