Dona Ana County Jail director resigns
DONA ANA COUNTY, N.M. (CBS4) —
The director of the Dona Ana County Detention Center resigned last week amid accusations that he was buying marijuana from undercover sources, officials said.
According to Jess Williams, a spokesperson for the county, Chris Barela resigned on Aug. 30.
Barela was charged in July on four counts of marijuana possession. The District Attorney’s Office had said Barela purchased marijuana from undercover sources.
Capt. Vickie Hooser has been running the jail since Barela was charged, and she will continue to do so until a successor is named.
