A man who police say fell asleep crashed into a business Monday in east El Paso.

The crash was reported around 7 a.m. at the Apys Color Supply store.

According to police, the 24-year-old man fell asleep while he was driving, lost control and crashed into the building.

Hazmat teams, firefighters and police responded to the scene.

Officials said they are taking preventive measures because of the chemicals in the store.

The assistant manager of the store, Armando Azzarate, said no employees were injured because the store was not open.

“In that little room, at 8 o'clock, three people start working in that corner where the car went in," said Azzarate.

The unidentified man was taken to the hospital.

The extent of his injuries is not known.

The store is expected to be closed for several weeks, said Azzarate.
