Man accused of killing common-wife in domestic fight, police say
EL PASO, Texas (CBS4) —
A man is accused of stabbing his wife to death Monday in their Lower Valley home.
Ruby Rodriguez, 26, was found dead around 3 a.m. in her home in the 300 block of Apodaca Place.
Police identified her accused killer as Rodrigo Rodriguez, 27.
El Paso police spent Monday trying to piece together how Ruby Rodriguez was killed.
The scene on Apodaca Place was clear by 9 p.m., with the exception of one police unit and crime scene tape. Police said officers found Ruby Rodriguez in a small home behind a pink house.
Investigators said her husband stabbed her during an argument that turned physical.
Rodrigo Rodriguez fled the scene and was found by DPS air support around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday in a canal/irrigation area close to SouthAmericas Avenue and Southside Road, near their home, police said.
CBS4 spoke with a woman who lives on Apodaca Place and said her aunt owns the property where Ruby Rodriguez was killed. She said the people involved were renting from her aunt.
The woman said she heard doors slamming and people arguing around midnight but didn't think anything of it, and then when she went outside, there was a lot of commotion on her street.
"This morning, my mom, just me, yeah, they showed up with guns and everything pointing to see if ... they called someone by the intercom, like the cops, by the intercom, and they just called them up and said, 'Get out of the house' or something like that," neighbor Paulina Salazar said.
Neighbors, including 11-year-old Cyris Vasquez, said they saw police with guns drawn, yelling, outside the home. Cyris said he was on his way to school when he walked outside his house and saw all the commotion and police with guns.
"I saw the red tape and then my friend told me that someone got killed over there so I got scared," Cyris said. "It was horrifying and I couldn't believe it. I live so close. I just couldn't believe it."
CBS4 saw the victim's father going through her car with police. He drove the car away from the scene.
Rodrigo Rodriguez was taken into custody without incident and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility late Monday evening.
It was the ninth slaying this year in El Paso.
