Tractor-trailer carrying propane catches fire on Montana Avenue, closing road for days
EL PASO COUNTY, Texas (CBS4) —
A tractor-trailer carrying 9,200 gallons of propane flipped over and caught fire on Montana Avenue Thursday afternoon.
It happened on the 19100 of Montana Avenue near Camino Buena Suerte just before 4 p.m.
The 29-year-old driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to a local hospital with injuries, according to Christina Acosta with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office.
Christina Acosta with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said Montana is closed both east and westbound from Hueco Tanks to the Hudspeth County line.
That area will remain closed as crews let the fire burn out and clear the scene, Acosta said.
Some people, headed east towards Carlsbad, had to cancel their Thanksgiving night plans because of the closures.
The Texas Department of Transportation tweeted Friday morning saying the warmer it gets, the faster the gas will burn off.
The road is expected to be reopened by Friday night.
Drivers can take the I-10 exit to Sierra Blanca and then go onto Highway 6180 as an alternate route.
