Health expo focuses on older adults, offers free flu shots
EL PASO, Texas (CBS4) —Greg Aguilar said he isn't taking any chances this year, so he got in line for a free flu shot.
"I want to be prepared," said Aguilar. "I don't want to be sick."
The flu shots were part of the Aging to Perfection Expo. It featured dozens of booths and resources catered at improving the health of older adults.
"We're keeping healthy and happy. That's what it's all about here," said Vivian Payan.
Organizers said this is the largest health expo for older adults in the area.
The El Paso Fire Department provided the vaccinations.
"The earlier you do it in a season, the more protection you have throughout the year," said Robert Arvizu, El Paso Fire Department deputy chief.
Peak flu season in El Paso won't come until later in the year, but health officials said now is the time to start getting the shots because the flu can come at any time.
"Last month there were 13 reported cases of influenza and that was in the middle of August," said Arvizu.
The health expo ended at 2 p.m.
