Over the weekend, video surfaced showing people setting off firecrackers inside of the Cielo Vista Mall near Dillard's.

Police say two males lit artillery canister shell fireworks in the foyer area outside of the women's Dillard's Saturday just after 3p.m.

Police are seeking to charge them with criminal mischief.

A video was uploaded to YouTube showing what appeared to be a group of teenagers setting off the firework inside a backpack and then running away.

The video, which has since been removed, showed the teens filming themselves setting off the firework.

The police report says the fireworks broke the ceiling windows and caused $500 worth of damage. No one has been arrested yet.

CBS4 spoke with Cielo Vista Mall customers who said this could have ended a lot worse. Some customers said if they were at the mall when it happened, they would have thought it was something else besides fireworks.

"Gunshots probably! The way things are going around the world right now with all of these shootings in malls and all that, I would have thought something like that. Look around, see what's going on," said East El Paso resident Marvin Kline.

"There are people that don't care about little kids or something, but I know it's wrong! It's all right to use firecrackers and everything, but throw them outside! Not inside the mall," said East El Paso resident Thomas Perales.

"People probably think that there was bombs in there," said Horizon resident Miguel Lopez. "You know, there's little kids in there. That's dangerous in public. Especially inside of the mall. Who would do that? I don't understand how people do that."

All of the customers we spoke with said the charge should be worse than criminal mischief. One customer suggested community service for the boys involved.

CBS4 is working to get a comment and security footage from the mall.
