Update: La Mesa man accused of punching, choking girlfriend

Eddie Carbajal is accused of punching and choking his girlfriend, police say.

Police have arrested a man who is suspected of punching and choking his girlfriend over the weekend.

Authorities said Eddie Carbajal, 29, turned himself in to police Tuesday evening.

Carbajal showed up at his 26-year-old girlfriend’s home just after 3 a.m. Sunday, police said.

The couple has been in a relationship for about a year and a half.

The woman woke up when Carbajal knocked on her window. She told detectives that when she let him in, Carbajal took a “shot of cocaine.”

Police said the woman said she went back to sleep in her room but was once again awakened by Carbajal, who was straddling her and punching her in the face and body.

The woman’s mother heard the commotion went into the bedroom and pulled Carbajal off her daughter.

Carbajal put his hands around his girlfriend's throat and began choking her, investigators said.

The woman’s mother grabbed a small baseball bat and hit Carbajal in the back. The girlfriend and her mother managed to shove Carbajal out of the home, police said.

Before leaving, Carbajal punched a window near the front door, police said.

He is charged with aggravated battery against a household member, battery against a household member and criminal damage to property.

Carbajal was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center where he’s being held on a cash-only bond set at $25,000.
