Las Cruces couple arrested after woman's 7-year-old son tests positive for meth
LAS CRUCES, N.M. (CBS4) —
A couple was arrested after the woman’s 7-year-old son tested positive for methamphetamine, police said.
Melanie A. Marolt and Skip H. Valenzuela, 37, are charged with one count each of child abuse, possession of controlled substance and use or possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police said Child Protective Services informed them that Marolt’s son tested positive for meth around April 7. The young boy lives with his mother part-time, police said.
The 7-year-old’s biological father agreed to be tested for drugs after the boy tested positive. His tests came back negative for drugs, police said.
Marolt initially refused to take a drug test, according to CPS.
Investigators then searched Marolt’s apartment which she shared with Valenzuela, her boyfriend.
Inside the apartment, investigators found narcotics and paraphernalia used to ingest meth and heroin, police said.
Marolt and Valenzuela were arrested Monday and booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center.
