Last phases of Streetcar Project to begin

The next phase of the streetcar project is set to cause more traffic headaches near UTEP.

The entire project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

There are only three phases of rail work left.

Phase one begins Monday and will take place along Glory Road between Oregon Street and Mesa Street.

Baltimore Drive will also be closed between Mesa Street and Stanton Street.

Turn lanes from Mesa onto both of those streets will also be closed.

Phase two is scheduled to start after the 4th of July lasting about three weeks and reducing Mesa to a single lane.

The third phase begins after rail work is complete

It will also reduce Mesa to one lane and construction will last for four weeks.

This construction is expected to be complete as early as August.

Official say we can begin to see the streetcars tested before the fall.
