Man in custody following officer-involved shooting Lower Valley

SWAT situation reported at a Lower Valley home

The man that prompted a SWAT situation early Monday morning still has not been identified.

The incident happened in the 9400 block of Martinique Drive, near Americas Avenue and Socorro Road.

Police said Tuesday they responded at 5:26 a.m. to an armed person call. Police also said when they arrived, a man fired a shotgun at an officer and a police officer shot back.

As police officer approached the front door of the home, they heard a shotgun being racked, said police.

An unidentified man walked out of the home firing a weapon, said police. An officer fired his weapon toward the man.

Police said the man then went to his backyard and fired his weapon two more times and returned inside the home.

No injuries were reported, police said.

Moments later the man came out and was taken into custody, according to police.

The SWAT situation was canceled around 6:30 a.m.

"I woke up at 5:40 a.m. I heard two gunshots. They weren't that small, they were pretty loud gunshots," said a neighbor who did not want to be identified. "My dogs started barking loudly and a lot of cars start whizzing by. The man who did it, when we found out, it surprised us. We always see him walking his dog and he would always say hi to us. He was always very well-dressed and always made sure to say hi to us."

The neighbor said her street is always very peaceful. She has lived there for 20 years and never had a problem like this.

"In this area, the security is not that great,” she said. “There was there was some time where cops would pass by regularly, because there was because there was a lot of speeding problems here. But once we reported it it's stopped and ever since then, there has never been any security here. But there's not any problems here."

The police presence was huge Monday.

A 12-gauge shotgun was found and taken in for evidence, said police.

A spokesperson said the investigation is ongoing.

No charges have been filed.
