Man sentenced to 50 years for murder of Frank Hernandez
EL PASO, Texas (CBS4) —
One of the two men charged in the 2016 murder of Frank Hernandez pleaded guilty this week.
On Tuesday, Alan Rodriguez, was sentenced to 50 years in prison, according to court records.
Rodriguez admitted to police that he used a 9mm gun to kill Hernandez.
Officers found Hernandez dead in his apartment at 4501 Lawrence Avenue on Sept. 21.
Rodriguez said it happened during a drug deal, according to court documents.
The arrest affidavit indicates that investigators found Rodriguez's cellphone and his fingerprints at the scene of the crime.
A plastic bin with bags of marijuana were also found in the apartment, the document stated.
Rodriguez's prints were found on the plastic bags containing marijuana.
Rodriguez confessed that he and another person "wanted to rob the victim of his 'drugs,'" and described taking part in "a ’lick,' (which is) street slang for an armed robbery, the complaint stated.
A 16-year-old was also charged in connection with Hernandez’s murder. He was turned over to the Juvenile Probation Department.
