Paso del Sur submits more than 2,200 signatures on Duranguito petition

There's been another attempt to save the Durangito neighborhood from being torn down for the arena.

A group has collected more than 2,200 signatures, which were turned a few minutes ago into the city clerk's office.

The group, Paso del Sur, wants to force a public vote and create a historical district.

This is the second round of signatures the group has collected.

They also collected a little more than 2,000 signatures the last time.

Paso del Sur said they believe they have a strong enough case to get this on the ballot, and they're just asking for the chance.

“Why are you spending millions of dollars in taxpayer money to appeal the judge's decision? If you think, we can just avoid that useless expense of litigation of years if you can just get everybody to the table and let the decision be inclusive. That's what we're asking," said David Dorado Romo.

A hearing is scheduled for 3 p.m. Monday at the El Paso County Courthouse.
