Supporters camp out in controversial Union Plaza neighborhood
EL PASO, Texas (CBS4) —
Demonstrators remain in the Union Plaza neighborhood protesting the demolition of buildings to make room for a new arena. Some told me they had been there for more than 24 hours.
Another court order put a halt to the latest demolition in the neighborhood.
A judge issued the new emergency order after property owners began demolishing their buildings.
Throughout the morning EPPD remained on scene guarding the buildings.
Supporters say they're staking out to work alongside EPPD and make sure no demolition attempts take place.
The court says there can't be any work done until an appeals court hears the case on Monday.
Construction crews were out at the site Tuesday morning. They say they were there to focus on sidewalk concrete repairs.
