Security guard accused of sexually assaulting Las Cruces middle school teacher

Tom M. Trujillo was arrested on one count each of kidnapping, criminal sexual penetration, bribery of a witness and criminal sexual contact.

A security officer working at a middle school is accused of groping a teacher in her classroom, police said.

Investigators believe Tom M. Trujillo, 59, and the teacher had casual conversations at the beginning of the school year, but they didn’t know each other well, police said.

On Sept. 26, Trujillo allegedly entered the teacher’s classroom, grabbed her arms and took her to an isolated part of the room, police said.

Trujillo then sexually assaulted her while she asked him to stop several times, police said.

Police first learned of the allegations on Oct. 2.

Trujillo was arrested on Monday on one count each of kidnapping, criminal sexual penetration, bribery of a witness and criminal sexual contact.

He was booked into the county jail, where he is initially being held without bond.

Trujillo has been working for Las Cruces Public Schools for eight years.

School district spokeswoman Jo Galvan said Trujillo resigned.

Galvan said the district has zero tolerance for sexual harassment.

“We have a policy that's long standing that talks about any kind of sexual advancement, graphics, language. any touching that is inappropriate or unwarranted when someone doesn't want to have that kind of contact. It's very specific and very thorough so that it does protect both students and staff,” said Galvan.
