SISD launches new free supper program

Free school lunches are planned for 32 schools in the Ysleta Independent School District.

The Socorro Independent School District is launching a new free-supper program at six campuses.

The program is part of the Child and Adult Care Food Program and administered by the Texas Department of Agriculture.

The free meals will be offered beginning Tuesday at the following campuses:

Mission Ridge Elementary School Monday through Thursday from 3:15 to 5 p.m.

Bill Sybert School Monday through Thursday from 3:15 to 5 p.m.

Ernesto Serna School Monday through Thursday from 3:15 to 5 p.m.

Capt. Walter E. Clarke Middle School

Eastlake Middle School Monday through Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Socorro High School Monday through Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

"We are very excited to launch this pilot program and turn an after-school snack into a 'super snack,' a full-on supper," said Shelley Chenausky, SISD Director of Child Nutrition Services. "We are happy to support our students' needs by providing them a third healthy meal and excited to open this service to the nearby community."

Currently, SISD offers free breakfast to all high schools, elementary and middle schools. Free lunch is available at seven campuses and free after-school snacks are offered for Win Academy students.

Those interested in the free-supper program simply have to show up to eat at the schools’ cafeterias.

Due to program rules, the meals cannot be taken out of the campuses.
