Update: Man suspected in shooting outside bar crashes car in east El Paso

Bryant Romero was charged with aggravated assault, evading arrest with a vehicle and DWI.

A 29-year-old man accused of firing a gun outside an east El Paso bar nearly hit an officer in his vehicle while fleeing the scene, police said.

Officers responded to a shots fired call around 11:17 p.m. Sunday at the Tipsy Tiger bar on the 1500 block of George Dieter Drive.

Witnesses told police the shots may have originated from the Whiskey Dicks bar parking lot, which is in the same shopping center at Tipsy Tiger.

While checking the parking lot, officers saw a man walking to a parked car with a gun in his hand, police said.

Police ordered the man to drop his gun, but he instead got into a maroon Chrysler 300, police said.

The man, later identified as Bryant Romero, 29, drove away, nearly hitting one of the officers, police said.

Officers responding to an unrelated shooting that left three people injured at a bar up the street called Mulligans Chopped Hog said they saw Romero speeding by on Trawood Drive.

Romero then crashed into a fire hydrant and trees on the 3000 block of Trawood Drive, and he was arrested soon after, police said.

Romero was charged with aggravated assault, evading arrest with a vehicle and DWI.

He was booked into the county jail with bail totaling $47,000.

Police said additional charges are pending.
