Trial to begin for New Mexico man accused of shooting father
Las Cruces, NM —
Tuesday morning, a Chaparral man accused of shooting his father with a shotgun is set to go before a jury.
Pedro Anthony Rivera is charged with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
Prosecutors say he shot and seriously injured his father last September.
Police say Rivera opened fire after he and his dad got into an argument.
A Dona Ana County deputy found Rivera's dad walking down a road with a gunshot wound.
He was hospitalized in critical condition.
Jury selection started Monday and opening statements are expected to start Tuesday.
He'll be in a Las Cruces district courtroom starting at 8 a.m.
