Victim, suspect hospitalized after shooting in northeast El Paso

The investigation into a shooting that happened in northeast El Paso revealed it started with an altercation.

El Paso police investigators said 24-year-old Paul Garcia and another 24-year-old man engaged in an altercation around 1:20 a.m. Wednesday.

Investigators with the gang unit said Garcia pulled out a handgun. Soon after the handgun was out, the two men wrestled and at some point,the weapon went off.

The victim was injured by a bullet and so was the alleged suspect, said police.

When the victim was down on the ground along McCombs Street near Manila Drive, other people assaulted him, according to investigators.

When police officers got to the victim, they were able to medically attend to him.

Garcia was found by police and taken into custody and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility.

He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
