Wait list to open for the Housing Authority of El Paso units

Families waiting for remodeled Housing Authority of El Paso (HACEP) units may be a little closer to finding their new homes.

According to the El Paso Times, the HACEP is about to open a wait list for those who qualify for the 600 new units.

A total of 1,700 units at 26 different properties have undergone extensive renovations.

The homes now have high-efficiency lighting and refrigerated air instead of swamp coolers.

the renovations are part of a $1.5 billion project aimed at modernizing the oldest public housing units citywide.

The Housing Authority currently has 11,000 people waiting for units, which will be alotted on a first-available basis.

The HACEP will open an online wait list at midnight Wednesday.
