A mother of three children, including a 1-year-old baby, has died after being shot in the head Thursday morning.

Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Deputies say Mavika Jenkins, a wife and mother of three, was gunned down by a masked gunman early Thursday morning at her home at 4104 Plumbago Place in unincorporated Lantana.

Eyewitness accounts indicate a man wearing a ski mask entered the home through the garage at about 1:30 a.m. Thursday.

Deputies say Jenkins was shot in the head inside of her home, just feet from her three children and relatives.

Who shot her, and why, is something Palm Beach County Sheriff’s detectives are trying to figure out.

One of the men who spoke exclusively to CBS12, was able to talk the shooter into letting the kids leave the room and go into the pool area in the backyard.

The shooter then told the remaining three adults to get on the floor. He then shot the mother in the head.

She was taken to Delray medical center where she later died from her injuries.

The shooter then took off in a car, the vehicle was later found a few blocks away.

Hours before her murder, Makeva Jenkins posted on Facebook a reflection of sorts, celebrating her life’s success and ability to go from homelessness to becoming a business owner.

“We overcame being homeless in 2013/2014 to reaching my six figure mark in 2015 to now making multi six figures. No matter what the road looked like, I followed my heart and stuck with it growing my business,” Jenkins wrote in what would be one of her final posts before she died.

Palm Beach County Sheriff deputies are searching for the suspect, who is still at large.
