Locked down Segundo Barrio gets best view of pope in El Paso
EL PASO, Texas —
Residents of Segundo Barrio may have had the best seats in El Paso to see Pope Francis.
CBS4 went to Segundo Barrio at the intersection of Park Street and Border Highway.
When Pope Francis arrived at the recently built alter at El Punto. Residents and people from all over the country gathered in the small corner of Segundo Barrio to catch a glimpse of Pope Francis.
"We weren't really expecting to see the pope," said Cindy Moreno, who lives in Segundo Barrio. "They said he was going to be raised on a platform and bless people and we would be able to see him when he does that."
And that's exactly what happened.
More than 200 people in the area saw the pope walk up the platform facing El Paso.
The crowd erupted in cheers, screaming the pope's name and waving as he made the sign of the cross. Some people who KFOX14 spoke with said seeing the pope Wednesday meant everything to them.
The Segundo Barrio watch party might have seen Pope Francis for only 10 seconds, but those 10 seconds will be something they'll never forget.
