El Paso representatives headed to SXSW

It's one of the biggest music events in Texas and this year El Paso will be a part of the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival.

On Tuesday, the city council will wrap-up plans to send delegates from Destination El Paso to represent the city in Austin at the event in March.

Last year the festival attracted about 76,000 people.

It draws crowds for the featured music and also features technology, films, and big name keynote speakers.

A few speakers for this year's event are astronaut Buzz Aldrin, TV host Rachael Ray and WWE star John Cena.

Last year, even former President Barack Obama was a keynote speaker.

The city and county of El Paso have been in discussion to send representatives to the nine-day event.

A representative with the City of El Paso says this is a great opportunity for tourism.

The City, County and Destination El Paso partnership want to show what El Paso has to offer, as well as build potential relationships.

El Paso's booth at the SXSW is secured.

On Tuesday, the county is discussing reimbursing the city 50 percent of the actual costs, not exceeding $110,000.
