Study says colleges checking social media to find out about applicants

You may want to take a closer look at your kids' Facebook and Twitter pages before they send out their college applications.

{}A recent study from Kaplan says 31% of 381 admissions officers surveyed say they check an applicant's Facebook page or other social media pages to learn more about them.

That's up 5% from last year and is the highest percentage yet.

But you may not have to be too worried, because the number of admissions officers who say they found something that would hurt an applicant's chances dropped 5% from last year to 30%.
