Chihuahuas are raised to become Padres, what about their fans?
(CBS4) -- If you want to know why the San Diego Padres made the 450 mile trip to Southwest University Park to end spring training look no further than the young fan who watched the game from about 20 feet behind the on-deck circle wearing a navy blue Hunter Renfroe, mesh jersey covered by a black Chihuahuas sweatshirt. That exemplified everything the organization had hoped for.
"We don't just want them to be Chihuahuas fans," former Chihuahua fan favorite Austin Hedges (Padres catcher) said. "We want them to be Padres fans too."
Monday's 8-6 exhibition went in favor of the Friars. It was the second such game El Paso has hosted in the Chihuahuas' now fifth season as a franchise.
