El Paso Chihuahuas to defend PCL championship in home opener

The El Paso Chihuahuas will defend their Pacific Coast League championship against the Las Vegas 51s at 7:05 p.m. Thursday.

Gates to Southwest University Park open at 5:45 p.m.

The first 4,000 guests will receive a free PCL championship rally towel. Thursday is also "Thrifty Thursday" at the ballpark, and 12-ounce Bud Light and Budweiser beer will be offered for $2, along with 24-ounce fountain drinks, value-sized popcorn and Chihua'rrrines.

During "Yappy Hour," fans can purchase a burger, fries and a drink or a pizza and a drink for $5.

"The Voice" contestant Elia Esparza will sing the national anthem and the Falcon Warbirds will do a flyover.

Standing tickets are still available for $12. Military veterans with IDs pay $10 for a ticket.

Thursday is the first of a five-game run. Flat-screen TVs will be given away on Friday. Fireworks are scheduled for Saturday, and the first 2,000 fans on Sunday will receive replica rings.
