Eastwood makes history by scheduling Plano in football
EL PASO - Texas Eastwood High School will make local football history next year, and the year after that. The Troopers scheduled an "away and away" series with Plano Senior High. It's the first time Plano will face an El Paso-area team in the regular season in its 94-year history.
"I've been wanting to play a team from the Metroplex for a while now," says Eastwood coach Julio Lopez. "It'll help change the culture at Eastwood, and we (6A teams in El Paso) will have to face these teams in the playoffs, anyway."
Next year's game against Plano will be on the Plano campus. Lopez says the school usually draws between three and five-thousand people. The following year, Eastwood will face Plano at one of the district stadiums schools in that area use. That stadium usually draws between 10-15 thousand people.
This season, Eastwood has a home game vs Odessa Permian.
