Returners school newcomers, Thomas & Wade impress at UTEP scrimmage
EL PASO, Texas (CBS4) -- A stronger and more mature - his words - Paul Thomas wow'd the Miners faithful with an alley-oop over an athletic 6'6'' freshman. The highlight reel play was part of Thomas' 21-point, six-assist and five-rebound performance as UTEP gears up for a preseason business trip to Costa Rica on Tuesday.
"We've been working hard this off-season," Thomas said after the game. "And this August trip is really helping us."
Not to be outdone was that freshman Thomas dunked over - Trey Wade. The new Miners' forward matched Thomas with 21-points of his own and eight rebounds.
"We had a pretty good crowd," Wade said while his eyes scanned the Don Haskins Center. "I know they're excited for this year and I'm excited to get wins for them."
"I can really see how the new guys can help us," head coach Tim Floyd said about his freshmen. "We had a couple of guys who didn't shoot it well, who can shoot it, and I thought it was because they were a little nervous."
