Eric O'Brien is a versatile on-air talent who is proud to join the CBS4 sports team.
A former professional baseball player from Tucson, Arizona, O’Brien comes to El Paso from WIFR in Rockford, Illinois, where he balanced sports and news as a weekend anchor. While there, O’Brien had the privilege of covering the Chicago Blackhawks' 2015 Stanley Cup championship run.
“After spending the last half-decade in a place where arctic vortexes are apparently a thing, I’m ecstatic to skip winter and reconnect with my Southwestern roots,” O’Brien joked. “More importantly, I’m eager to show the Borderland the side of sports that makes it so near and dear to my heart. Getting to do so alongside someone as well respected as Lou is just icing on the cake.”
Broadcasting has always been a passion of O’Brien’s. His resume includes: play-by-play announcing with HETV and SportsTownChicago.com; color commentating for Gary Southshore Railcats professional baseball; and hosting "Social Buzz" segments on Women's Forum TV.
College baseball took O’Brien to Chicago State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in 2013. Off the field, Eric was honored by being selected to the 2013 All-Academic Team as a four-time scholar athlete recipient.
