Watch Nate Barrett on CBS4 Daybreak. He also reports for the CBS4 noon show.
Nate comes to El Paso from Wisconsin, where he anchored Wausau's No. 1-rated morning show. He's ready for warmer weather after dealing with winter temperatures well below zero.
He was born and raised near Portland, Oregon. Nate got his love of journalism from his grandfather, who always said he'd grow up to be a sports broadcaster. His grandfather coached high school football and baseball, and Nate was the grandson who would watch sports with him all day. He passed away before Nate graduated from college, but Nate says his grandfather's encouragement gave him the passion to be the broadcaster he is today.
Nate speaks Spanish, having grown up with many ties to Mexico. When he was young, his parents made friends on a trip to Mexico who became family. Every year they would send one of their children or cousins to Oregon to learn English. They were like brothers and sisters. He also spent a year studying abroad in Spain. Nate's excited for comida Mexicana and being in a community that feels like home.
