As the national teacher shortage continues, Harmony Public Schools plans to invest in their educators to combat this issue.

The Harmony Public Schools executive board voted unanimously to give teachers a pay raise on their base salary this school year.

This vote included a $1,000 increase for employees that are already on their teacher pay scale and $500 increase for employees that have an existing teacher certification.

CBS4 spoke with the director of marketing and communications at Harmony Public Schools. She said that teachers, interventionists and campus instructional coaches are included in the pay raise.

This pay increase is the schools attempt to retain staff members while attracting new teachers to their institutions during the continued high demand of teachers across the country.

"The teacher pool has been shrinking over the years so we just find it to be very important to invest in our employees and in our teachers so that we are able to attract new teachers and retain our current staff," Glenn said.

Glenn explained that with the school year starting on August 15, Harmony Public Schools is almost fully staffed despite the national shortage.

"We have limited positions available, we are almost fully staffed and our teachers and staff are really excited to welcome our students back on August 15th for their first day of school," Glenn said.
