Troops return to Fort Bliss after deployment in Iraq
FORT BLISS, Texas —
Approximately 500 Fort Bliss soldiers with the 1st Armored Division in Fort Bliss returned home at the end of last week, according to spokesman Mike Brantley, with Fort Bliss.
The soldiers were deployed in Iraq for nine months, said Brantley.
Pat White, commanding general, called their deployment a victory in part for helping defeat the Islamic State group.
"To be a part of a winning team (is) historical in nature. I think it's the first step in a global effort to defeat ISIS," said White.
White said the returning soldiers are now tasked with passing on their knowledge to other troops.
The Third Brigade is currently training to deploy later this summer, according to White.
