One man is dead after a deputy-involved shooting in Canutillo on Wednesday.

Officials identified the man as 43-year-old Isaiah James Rael.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office stated deputies first responded to the 7600 block of Campos St. around 12:16 a.m. after they received reports of a man with a gun.

Responding deputies were told that Rael had fled the area in a white vehicle after displaying a handgun at a woman and her daughter.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle several yards from the intersection of Campos Road and Bosque Road.

During the stop, deputies attempted to contact Rael and take him into custody.

The sheriff's office said Rael was given multiple commands, however, he refused to comply with the requests.

A deputy deployed a taser but it was ineffective.

Rael was seen pulling out a handgun while deputies continued giving verbal commands, according to the sheriff's office.

Rael did not comply and was shot several times.

Deputies immediately began lifesaving measures until emergency medical services arrived on the scene.

Rael was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

No other injuries were reported, and a handgun was recovered.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division – Major Crimes Unit, El Paso County Sheriff's Office Shooting Review Team, and Texas Rangers of the Texas Department of Public Safety are investigating the incident.

As part of the protocol, the two deputies involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave until the investigation is complete.

This is a developing story; check back for updates.
