57-hour closure on I-10 at Sunland Park begins Friday evening
Interstate 10 in both directions is scheduled to close between the Sunland Park exit ramp and entrance ramp this weekend.
The closure begins at 9 p.m. Friday and is lifted Monday at 6 a.m.
Officials with the Texas Department of Transportation said Sunland Park Drive in both directions will close between Mesa Hills Drive and Doniphan Drive as well.
"It's going to cause a big slowdown it's going to cause some congestion," said TxDOT spokesperson, Jennifer Wright.
The Resler entrance ramp to I-10 east will also be closed, according to TxDOT.
They advise motorists to exit at Sunland Park (Exit 13) and immediately reenter I-10 at the next ramp.
Crews will be demolishing Sunland Park structures.
"This is the worst of it, this is as bad as it's ever going to get," said Wright.
Oversized vehicles requiring a minimum 14-foot bridge clearance will not be allowed to follow the marked detour route for I-10 Westbound traffic. Oversized vehicles on I-10 Westbound should use an alternate route to avoid the I-10/Sunland Park interchange.
