The El Paso Fire Department is accepting applications for Public Safety Communicator Trainees until Thursday.

Public Safety Communicators process emergency and non-emergency telephone calls and dispatch, monitor, and coordinate activities of emergency personnel (police, fire and medical) using a multi-channel radio system and a computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system.

Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED and two years of general work experience, with at least one year involving public contact. Spanish is not required for hiring but may be a requirement depending on which function is assigned. Non-Spanish speakers are encouraged to apply.

Selected candidates will go through a paid, six-month training period earning $14.65 an hour. Upon completion of the training period, trainees will be promoted to Public Safety Communicator, starting at $34,537 annually.
