Suspects in Sunland Park deadly mobile home fire arraigned

The two people accused of starting a deadly mobile home fire in Sunland Park will appear in front of a judge Monday morning.

Jocelyn Ontiveros and Juan Carlos Holguin were arrested in connection with the arson investigation.

The fire happened Dec. 13, destroying the home and killing 8-year-old Marisa Munoz.

Six other people inside managed to get out of the home. Munoz was the only person who wasn't accounted for.

Ontiveros and Holguin both face 36 counts, including arson, tampering with evidence and child abuse.

Police believe that the fire was started in result of a love triangle.

A Las Cruces Sun News report connects Jocelyn Ontiveros to the family through the father of one of the children inside. Police are unsure of Holguin's role in the fire.

The arraignment hearing is set to start at 7:30 a.m. on Monday at the District Court House in Las Cruces before Judge Lisa C. Schultz in courtroom 8.

Ontiveros pleaded not guilty to the charges. According to the judge, she will remain in custody without bond.

Holguin's attorney was not in the courtroom Monday. His arraignment was rescheduled for another time.

We are working to find out when he has to appear in court again.
