EL PASO, Texas - The El Paso County Sheriff's Office said they arrested a man they believe was trying to break into a home in far east El Paso.
Sheriff's deputies responded to a burglary call early Wednesday in the 13000 block of Fort Apache Lane around 5 a.m.
When they arrived, owners of the property told deputies Mark Zarate was trying to break in.
Zarate ran away when the owners came out of the home yelling at him. There was an exchange of gunfire between Zarate and the owner of the home, said a sheriff's official.
Zarate was injured in the arm.
He was charged with criminal trespass, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful carrying of a weapon.
He was booked into the El Paso County Jail.
