Chicos Tacos celebrates 65th anniversary on July 4
An El Paso staple is celebrating its 65th anniversary on the Fourth of July.
Chicos Tacos has been serving its famous rolled tacos for 65 years now, and to celebrate, the restaurant will be selling limited edition anniversary T-shirts.
First opened on July 4, 1953, Chicos Tacos quickly became a family favorite and one of the most recognizable restaurant names in El Paso.
It’s a family business spearheaded by Joe Mora, who opened the first location on Alameda Avenue. Since then, his son Bernie says he and his brothers have kept the business running.
"When he came up with the idea, everybody said that's not a taco and he said no that's Chico's Tacos. He came up with the identity then and made that the signature dish,” said Bernie Mora.
In January, Joe Mora’s wife Emma died. Emma was also part of the Chicos Tacos story. She celebrated her 90th birthday in December.
Chicos Tacos has four locations throughout El Paso.
