Child dies in 'possible accidental shooting'
The Tornillo community is mourning the loss of one of their own today after an accidental shooting left a child dead.
CBS4 has learned that the child involved in the shooting was a sixth-grader in the Tornillo Independent School District.
On Friday, his classmates received grief counseling.
Investigators are trying to piece together a case involving a death of a child.
The accidental shooting happened Thursday evening on Highland Street.
At this time deputies are saying that they responded to an “injured party call” along the 19000 block of Highland Drive in Tornillo.
All CBS4 has been able to confirm is that it involved two siblings.
The sixth-grader was taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries, where he later died.
On Friday, staff at the district had three counselors on hand to help the child's classmates cope with the loss.
San Elizario Independent School District also sent three of their counselors to help.
"We do offer our condolences to the family and we went there to offer our help to see whatever they need and the district is willing to assist in any way that we can," said Tornillo Independent School District Interim Superintendent Marco Tristan.
CBS4 spoke to some of the child's family members.
They didn't say the child's name and they said they are distraught as they cope with his loss.
