Cimarron area brings new development to northwest El Paso
Located next to the Hospitals of Providence Transmountain Campus, one of El Paso's newest development projects is coming to life.
"We want to give people an experience. And I kind of think this flows into the whole thing," said Will Harvey , EP Riverbend Development.
Harvey is one of the developers of the Canyons of Cimarron. You may be familiar with some of his work. EP Riverbend was also behind the new Substation in the Upper Valley.
"We want people to linger, hang out, and it's embedded in the neighborhood," said Harvey.
The center will offer shopping and places to eat.
"There's going to be a pizza place, nail salon, Sunny's Sushi, we have a dog grooming place. We have a couple of bars scheduled to come into the development," Harvey told CBS4 on a tour of the project.
This center is just one addition to the growing area in northwest El Paso.
"Cimarron is a master-planned neighborhood. And what we want to include in Cimarron is a place where they can have homes and parks and access to open space," said Justin Chapman, president of Southwest Community Development for Hunt Companies.
Hunt Communities oversees all the development.
"This is an area over the past 10 years that we've been developing. We're getting ready to deliver a new phase of that," said Chapman.
In addition to more homes, the area is going to include a 3.3-acre park, access to trails, and even a BMX track.
"It's a beautiful development what they're doing here. The surrounding area, the neighborhood," said Rick Beristain as he enjoyed a nearby park with his family.
The first stores and restaurants are scheduled to open in the next 4-5 months.
That's when the park should be close to opening as well.
CBS 4 was also given an update on the new upscale apartment complex coming to the area.
Las Mansiones at Cimarron is described as an A+ complex with plenty of amenities.
It's getting ready to open in September, and is nestled right next to the shopping center at the Canyons.
"You've got the hospital just down the street. So there's definitely a lot happening. We're happy to be right in the center of it," said Jason Cullers, Cullers & Caldwell.
These apartments are going to be a bit more than your typical place in Sun City. They weren't ready to release the price just yet. But there's already a waiting list for people who are interested.
