Complete closure of US54 scheduled for Sunday Feb. 11
Drivers in Northeast El Paso should prepare for closures on U.S. 54 this weekend as part of TXDOT’s widening and illumination project.
Beginning Sunday, the Hondo Pass entrance ramp going north, the northbound Diana exit ramp and the Diana ramp going north will be closed.
In preparation for those closures, U.S. 54 going north between Hondo Pass Drive and the Diana exit ramp will be completely closed from 7 a.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday.
Crews will be removing the overhead signs in the area, placing closure signs and closing the exits with barriers, a TXDOT spokeswoman said.
Another complete closure of U.S. 54 is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 18, from 7 a.m. until Monday, Feb. 18, at 5 a.m. U.S. 54 will be closed southbound between Hondo Pass and the Diana exit ramp. This closure will include the Hondo Pass exit ramps going south and the southbound Diana on- and off ramps.
TXDOT says the U.S. 54 closures are expected to last six months as crews work to complete the widening and illumination projects started in November 2017. The $35 million project stretches from Hondo Pass to Loop 375/Transmountain. The project includes adding a lane, more lighting, turnarounds, new on- and off-ramps, and a 2-mile shared path for pedestrians that stretches from Hondo Pass to Transmountain.
Drivers can use the Gateway as an alternate route and should plan for extra travel time.
