Convicted sex offender found in Oklahoma years after failing to report in El Paso

Alfonso Garibay, who was convicted of the sexual assault of a young girl, was arrested in Oklahoma after failing to report in El Paso upon being released from jail.

A convicted sex offender who was supposed to report to the halfway house on Horizon Boulevard years ago was found in Oklahoma.

Alfonso Garibay was convicted in the aggravated sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl, according to Leslie Antunez, with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

He was released from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice on Feb. 23, 2000, but never reported to the halfway house in El Paso.

Antunez said Garibay was found in Caddo County, Oklahoma, and was taken into custody on Aug. 13 and extradited to El Paso.
