Police reports states El Paso baby placed in car seat fell down stairs
A baby who suffered serious injuries fell down the stairs, according to his mother's arrest report.
Ten-month-old Alexander Mateo Sanchez died on Jan. 20 at his home along the 1300 block of Myrtle Street, according to the El Paso police report.
His mother, Kinari Yaksi Munoz, 20, told police detectives around 8:30 a.m. she left Alexander in his car seat unbuckled.
The car seat was placed near the top of the stairs, according to the report.
She told detectives that while she was showering, she heard a loud thump.
The report said Munoz told detectives that she got out and found Alexander face up at the bottom of the stairs with the car seat on top of him.
Munoz told police Alexander was bleeding from his mouth and had a bump on his head.
She feared that authorities would take her other two children away, according to the report.
KFOX14 reported on Friday Munoz was charged with the death of her son.
El Paso police said she left El Paso to seek medical attention for Alexander.
Investigators said the child suffered serious injuries, including injuries to his face, head, scalp, skull and brain.
Munoz, according to police, took the boy and walked across the bridge to seek medical care in Ciudad Juarez on that day.
When they arrived at the hospital, Alexander showed no signs of life, according to the report.
Detectives said surveillance footage showed Munoz crossing into Mexico on foot at 1:05 p.m. on Jan. 20.
El Paso authorities were notified by the U.S. Consulate in Ciudad Juarez.
Munoz was arrested on Friday and is facing charges for injury to a child with intent to cause bodily injury.
Munoz was booked into the El Paso County Jail on Friday. Her bond totals $250,000.
The investigation is ongoing.
