Deputies seize more than $42K in illegal fireworks in Chaparral
Deputies with the Dona Ana County Sheriff's Office seized more than $42,000 in illegal fireworks from a stand in Chaparral on Friday, according to the Dona Ana County Sheriff’’s Office.
The stand was operating under a licensed obtained by Mr. W Fireworks Inc. The stand was located off McCombs just inside the New Mexico county line.
Several tips were sent to the Sheriff's Office on its Facebook page. Deputies then staged an undercover buy.
Hundreds of pounds of aerial fireworks and artillery shells were found, which are prohibited by the county, according to the sheriff's office.
“Essentially, any firework that leaves the ground is considered illegal,” said Doña Ana County Fire Chief Nick Hempel.
