Some parents who rushed to Cielo Vista Mall to try and get in on Build-A-Bear Workshop’s Pay Your Age special were disappointed to find out the store was no longer taking customers.

A statement on the store’s website read:

Per local authorities, we cannot accept additional Guests at our U.S. Build-A-Bear Workshop locations due to crowd and safety concerns. We have closed lines in our U.S. stores. We understand some of our Guests are disappointed and we will reach out directly as soon as possible.

At the El Paso location, viewer Rebecca Dennis, stood in a line that stretched across the other side of the mall.

Dennis stood in line with her family before the rest of the mall stores opened at 10 a.m. At noon she was about 3 hours away from getting inside the store.

The announcement about some store closures nationwide went out around 9 a.m.

Christopher Rodriguez said he was excited to stand in line with his parents.

“We’ve been standing there for like 6 hours. It’s worth it,” Rodriquez said.

For Nehe Minh, the Pay Your Age event gave her the opportunity to visit the store with her kids for the first time.

“I never been inside build a bear so it was interesting,” Minh said.

Store officials at the Cielo Vista Mall location stopped allowing people to stand in line for the special and offered those already in it $15 off coupons if they chose to leave.

David De La Rosa said he took his daughter to Build-A-Bear but was one of the people that was no longer allowed to get in line.

"I'm a very positive person and I'll wait in line for anything but to see this line, I gave up,” De La Rosa said.

For the lucky kids like Rodriguez, they were all thankful to the adults who drove them there and waited in line for hours.

"I want to thank my parents for bringing us here," Rodriguez said.

Pay Your Age day allowed customers to pay their age for a stuffed animal as long as they're part of the Bonus Club.
