Mayor turns back on CBS4 camera after questions about city attorney
CBS4 On Your Side got a copy of the settlement agreement for City Attorney Sylvia Firth's retirement.
We went page by page to see what was agreed upon by the city attorney and Mayor Dee Margo.
It came with $127,115.69 in unused sick leave employees are entitled to. There was also $124,379.35 for six months’ worth of severance.
That agreement is not in her contract.
CBS4 On Your Side dug up the contract.
The documents show Firth can receive a severance package and the unused sick leave if she is fired. It says she only receives payment for unused sick leave if she resigns.
Mayor Dee Margo was out of town last week when CBS4 tried to speak with him about the contract.
On Friday, CBS4 On Your Side learned he would be at an event at the Wyndham Hotel. So we went to the event he was attending to ask about Firth's severance pay.
CBS4 On Your Side’s Ryan Hill asked Margo why Firth was given a severance package for retiring and not fired.
Margo stated he wasn’t going to talk about this issue until Monday and his comment about the issue for now would be there would be a meeting on Monday.
Hill asked Margo what would be talked about on Monday and the mayor told him to look at the agenda.
According to the City of El Paso’s meeting website, there will be a special City Council meeting on Monday at 9 a.m.
There was no additional information about details or topics that would be discussed.
